Hamas has accused Fatah members of planning an assassination attempt on Hamas-backed Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.  Al-Sharq al-Awsat reports that a suicide attack had been planned to target Haniyeh during Friday prayers. Hamas also says that top members of Fatah knew of the plan, including Al-Tayeb Abd al-Rahim, who is a deputy of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Fatah has denied all accusations. A Hamas minister said that Hamas security forces arrested members of the group planning to undertake the assassination operation, including the individual who planned to undertake the suicide aspect of the mission.

The death toll for the past few days has risen to 38 and over a hundred injured.
